Are you someone who just loves to do things for others? I’m sure this instinct flows from the Lord who’s very nature is to give. He gives life to all things and food and breath. He prepares us to be the right one to carry out HIS tasks and prepares the tasks for us which give our lives depth and meaning.
The operative word is HIS tasks. My pastor was talking this past week and mentioned that we need to make sure we are receiving nurture and power and support and not just putting out. If you put out more than you receive you will soon be empty.
I would take it a bit further, for, without him, you can do NOTHING. So, do you have people and tasks in your life that he has given to you? Then your job, and mine, is to be a CHANNEL and not to think that we can do anything of ourselves.
Remember the basic three prayers we should pray throughout the day?: SINCE I CAN’T–LORD HELP! and SINCE HE WANTS TO AND WILL–THANKS! and SINCE OUR FEEBLE EFFORTS ARE THE CHANNEL OF HIS POWER INTO THE SITUATION–SHOW ME MY PART AND EMPOWER ME TO ACT. For we can do all things through Christ.
When the power of light enters a laser crystal, it is absorbed by the atoms and then re-emerges with the same power but changed by it’s stay in the crystal. The power is entirely from the light coming in but it is altered by the character of the crystal to be the exact color and nature to be useful to the designer. The light does not simply pass through but affects and empowers the crystal. And so it is with us. We must not only remember that the power and results belong to God but the part that I have trouble with is remembering that I, the crystal, need to be nourished and fed as well. I must RECEIVE and then pass on.
When I try to be a useful tool and let God help others through my efforts, but don’t allow my own needs to be met: then I am deep inside thinking that God is an abuser and user of his children. The reverse is true. I have often observed God waiting to use someone until they are ready and are in the position of a fed beggar telling others where they found the food.
Let’s make sure we stay in the word, talk with the Lord all day long, take our days of rest, ask for help in our tasks,
Psalm 127King James Version (KJV)
127 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.
4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
Verle’s translation: It’s a waste of time and energy to decide for yourself what is right and wrong (ASK GOD FOR GUIDANCE) to do anything in your own strength, to moan and groan about how hard it all is to get up too early and work late and whine about the labor. Instead if God asks you to do anything then get a good night’s sleep and whistle while you work and fellowship with him throughout then get a good night’s sleep committing the outcome to Him. The he might let you raise kids–the toughest job to not be uptight about and just do your part and leave the rest to Him.
