The brain can only scan the last 4 hours accurately so at noon supper and bed;  I will stop and practice mindfulness, look at the last 4 hours and ask God to open my eyes and see and hear my current surroundings with his eyes and ears.

A.Take for granted the good God has done and what I have, what little I can do and who God has placed in my life.

B.Resent my reality

C.Wish for something more but when I get it, resent that.

GODLY MINDFULNESS: Letting God open my eyes and ears to see and hear all the good and bad as reason for gratitude and worship.  To see as he sees.

Remembering that he IS yesterday today and tomorrow. I am just now. My reality only touches his in the now and only to the extent that I see the now with his eyes and hear others with his ears. Jesus saw the harvest ripe, he saw the multitude as needing a shepherd so he sat down and taught and thrust forth harvesters.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Philippians 3:12 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those (great accomplishments of the Holy Spirit through me) things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 6:2 For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, NOW is the accepted time; behold, NOW is the day of salvation.

Mark 8:18  Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?21

Isaiah 50:4 The Lord God wakeneth me morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.5 The Lord God hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.

Constantly ask, how am I doing at living in the reality God has placed me in?

No matter how I may fuss about it, in the end of the fussing I am still myself, where I am and when I am, dealing with what he has given me and who he has placed in my life.

Perhaps the most important “self-talk” sentence is: “What do You want me to do right now about this thing I am focussed on, how do You want me to obey?”

1.If he shows me my part then I need to ACT  with support from God and others. 2. If I can’t act till later, then  I need to find some way to remember and REST PATIENTLY. 3.If it is someone else’s task, then DELEGATE. 4.  If no one can do anything, then, no matter how bad or dangerous or unfair, REJOICE in the unchangeable reality and ACCEPT God’s sovereignty and that it is OK if I can’t fix everything. Finally I need to grab ahold of all that God has for me now, investing no worry in tomorrow or what is happening elsewhere and not wallowing in yesterday (remembering to cast my cares on Him through prayer).

Next, by God’s grace I need to pull my focus back to the here and now. I need to see the problems as challenges to bless me with growth and ministry and meaning. I need to see the rest as things to be savored and appreciated.

100 years ago a doctor found that the only ones who left the state psychiatric hospitals were the ones who had learned:

1. not to sweat the small stuff   2. not to sweat the big stuff they could do nothing about,   3. not to handle things alone making tasks more stressful than necessary   4.not to procrastinate.   5. not to bury hurts but take them to God   6. to see problems in the light of all the good and in the light of our hope in eternity.

These patients did well even before the advent of medications. Loving God is great but will not prevent illness. Obedience to his life instructions, that heals and prevents illness. If you love God and eat unhealthy food-you die! If you love God and wallow in anger bitterness worry fear etc. you will still burn out. Blessing requires living in his ways.

You will remain loved and eternally secure but still miserable and worn out. His ways do work! It’s like the pastor who said that smokers go to heaven they just go early and miss out on a lot of ministry.

  1. Loved this so much that I’ m going to email it to a couple of friends we know. I pray that God will give them the grace to apply it in their daily walk. It just makes life much more enjoyable! In the past 2 weeks , we have had over 100.000 dollars stolen, one daughter has told me that she had to learn how to be without a mother while I was sick, so now she doesn’t need one, and our youngest daughter is waiting to hear from our doctor whether or not she is having a miscarriage. The fact remains that God is good and He is in control! I love my life because God is for me and loves my family even more than I do. Amen!

Keep your eyes fixed on the higher truth. You have listed some, for us,unsurmountable lower truths, but next to eternal life, being the bride of Christ, having our sins blotted out, having opportunities to share Him with others. All others truths are not worthy to be compared. Verle

  2. You mean wouldn’t take “me in” and not take “my in”… see poem comfort ye my people

Thanks for the editing. Did you get anything from the poem,if so-it would be an encouragement to me if you shared what. Verle

  3. Thank you for your insight, I believe that healthy living is key in good and stable mental health. I try to apply these principles faithfully and it has helped tremendously.
