MERCY

GOD’S AMAZING GIFT-MERCY.
.MERCY-helping me benefit from the consequences of sin, mine and others sin. (Freedom from the penalty of sin.) . First he takes on himself the consequences that would destroy me. Like a good parent with a child that has disobediently broken a $2000 window, he pays the part of the debt I can’t pay and leaves the consequences that we can walk together in order to help me learn to hate disobedience.

Still it is hard to benifit from God’s mercy unless I understand what it is and why I don’t like it, and how it works out in my life.

If I humble myself and turn from my wicked ways and confess my iniquities and my parents’ iniquities and admit the results of these iniquities, and, most difficult, thank God for the consequences: Then he will come into my consequences and walk them with me and restore my broken life and teach me to hate evil. II Cor 5.21, Leviticus 26.40-46
Where sin abounded, Grace even more abounds, (Rom 5.20) and he uses the consequences of my sin to: teach me to hate sin, to hunger for righteousness, to be humble, to reach out to others without judgment of their worth but with hatred of their sin and its consequences. Proverbs, 8.13
He goes so far beyond just fixing the damage, that would just be the opposite of the devil, but if he first heals me and then brings great good out of that evil , then he is truly the awesome and great physician. Ephesians 2.7
LORD HELP ME TO FREELY CONFESS MY SIN WITHOUT WATERING IT DOWN, TO HATE IT AND NOT HATE MYSELF, TO LET YOU HEAL ME AND GIVE ME MINISTRY FROM THE ASHES OF MY SINS,AND NOT TRY TO SWEEP THEM UNDER THE RUG. 2 Corinthians 12.10

Why I hate MERCY!

It puts me into infinite debt and all my “rights” make no sense. I no longer belong to me. I am bought with a price. I Corinthians 6:20

The Emperor Napoleon in His Study at the Tuile...

A mother came to Napoleon to beg for mercy for her son who had fallen asleep on guard duty during a war campaign. “Madam”, he said,” He doesn’t deserve mercy!”  Just as quick as can be, she replied, “But, sir, if he deserved it, it wouldn’t be mercy!” He was so taken by her wisdom that he pardoned the son.

That’s the first rub, in order to have MERCY I have to admit my need and my total inability to deserve it and then ask for what I so desperately need. If given, I owe him big-time. I want to ask for forgiveness and healing but then claim that I deserve it because it wasn’t that bad, I didn’t realize what I was doing, I’m not as bad as others etc.

Mercy accepted, forces me to see that God is righteous in granting my enemies mercy. Remember Jonah? He hated the Ninevites so badly that he was depressed to the point of wanting to die because God granted them mercy.

Mercy goes beyond forgiveness and seeks to let God bring good out of the whole mess, so much good that the devil will wish he’d not caused the problems in the first place.

I also dislike the fact that, in order to receive mercy, I have to quit whining about the consequences I have pulled down on my own head and, instead, thank God for the consequences and not accuse him, by my whining, of being a mean over-reactor. I EVEN NEED TO REJOICE IN AND BE GRATEFUL FOR THE SPANKINGS A LOVING FATHER DELIVERS. Leviticus 26.42-43 Proverbs 13.24, Hebrews 12.6,7 I, so often want to get rid of the consequences and not of the sin that brought on the consequences. I am like the child that apologizes for breaking his leg and not for disobeying his mother and climbing the tree in the first place.

THANK YOU THANK YOU FOR YOUR SPANKINGS DEAR LOVING FATHER. HELP ME WITH MY ATTITUDES WHICH CAUSES ME TO ACCUSE YOU OF BEING MEAN AND PURGE ME WITH HYSSOP THAT I MIGHT BE WHITER THAN SNOW.

  1. What is an example of mercy feeding into the sin? Does it only happen if we have the wrong attitude? If we have the right attitude is it impossible to have mercy feed into the sin?
